Kolkata: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a tour of West Bengal today. The Prime Minister addressed a BJP rally in Nandigram today.

The rally by PM Modi was in support of veteran leader Suvendu Adhikari, who had left the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) to join the BJP in December last year. The first phase of the West Bengal Election 2021 is going to be held in Nandigram on March 27.

PM Modi will also hold an election rally in support of BJP candidates in Kanthi in East Medinipur district. This area is considered to be the stronghold of the Adhikari family that dominates the politics of the western districts of West Bengal.

Shishir Adhikari, the father of BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, is an MP from Kanthi. Three days ago, he left the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and joined the BJP in the presence of Home Minister Amit Shah. Earlier, Suvendu Adhikari had joined the BJP in December and this time is contesting against Mamata Banerjee from Nandigram. The Adhikari family dominates the entire district.

Suvendu Adhikari and his MP father Shishir Adhikari were also present at PM Modi’s rally.

Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will also address three TMC rallies in Bankura district on Wednesday.
