West Bengal: BJP replaces Dilip Ghosh as state unit chief

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) made a big announcement on Monday evening. Dr. Sukanta Majumdar has been appointed president of the West Bengal unit of the BJP.

The West Bengal BJP current chief Dilip Ghosh has now been given the responsibility of the party’s national vice-president.

Baby Rani Maurya has been appointed National Vice President of the BJP. He had resigned from the post of Governor of Uttarakhand earlier this month.

There was internal dissent within the West Bengal BJP ever since the debacle in the assembly elections earlier this year.

As many as three MLAs and an MP have left the BJP to join the Trinamool Congress (TMC) since West Bengal polls last May.

Senior leader Mukul Roy had returned to the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) almost immediately after the West Bengal polls. He was rumoured to have a rather strained relationship with Dilip Ghosh.

Recently, Babul Supriyo, another former stalwart of the West Bengal BJP had left the Saffron camp to join the TMC.

Following the switch over, Babul Supriyo had lashed out at Dilip Ghosh and held him responsible for the BJP defeat in the West Bengal polls.
