Video: PM Modi pays condolences on demise of Congress leader Ahmed Patel

Amit Kumar, New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his condolences on the demise of Ahmed Patel, considered to be the ‘Chanakya’ of the Congress. 

PM Modi has expressed condolences on the death of Ahmed Patel via Twitter.

“Saddened by the demise of Ahmed Patel Ji. He spent years in public life, serving society. Known for his sharp mind, his role in strengthening the Congress Party would always be remembered. Spoke to his son Faisal and expressed condolences. May Ahmed Bhai’s soul rest in peace,” PM Modi tweeted.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also spoke to Ahmed Patel’s son Faizal.

Senior Congress leader and political advisor to Sonia Gandhi, Ahmed Patel has passed away at the age of 71. 

Ahmed Patel was infected with coronavirus for the past one month. He was undergoing treatment at the Medanta Hospital in Gurugram. But despite all efforts, he could not be saved.

Ahmed Patel served as Sonia Gandhi’s political advisor for years and is believed to have been a part of every important decision she took. He was the only person to have a direct visit to 10 Janpath. He was loyal to Sonia-Rahul and was also the tallest politician in the party. The instructions and signals of the Congress high command were transmitted through him to other big leaders.

Ahmed Patel has been a member of the Lok Sabha thrice. He was nominated a Rajya Sabha MP 5 times. 

Ahmed Patel first went to Parliament at the age of 26 in 1977, after winning the Lok Sabha elections from Bharuch, Gujarat. He was a Rajya Sabha MP since 1993. In August 2018, he was appointed treasurer of the Congress Party. Ahmed Patel, who always did politics from behind the scenes, was counted among the trusted leaders of the Congress family.
