Kolkata: Union Home Minister and senior BJP leader Amit Shah is on a two-day visit to West Bengal.
On Saturday, he first went to the ancestral home of Swami Vivekananda in Kolkata to garland his statue. He then went to the ancestral village of revolutionary martyr Khudiram Bose in West Midnapore district and paid floral tributes.
Amit Shah met Khudiram Bose’s family members in West Midnapore district and honoured the relatives of the youngest martyr of India’s freedom struggle with garlands.
“It is my privilege to be able to touch the soil of the great freedom fighter Khudiram Bose with my forehead. He happily sacrificed his life and went smiling to the gallows for the Indian independence movement,” Union Home Minister Amit Shah said.
Gopal Basu, a member of Khudiram Bose’s family, said, ” the BJP has given us respect. No previous government has given us such respect. Neither did the Trinamool Congress.”
Earlier, he had said,”when I meet Amit Shah, I will say that there is no development in Khudiram Bose’s birthplace. We only want employment for the youth.”
After this, Union Home Minister Amit Shah reached the Siddheshwari Kali Temple in Midnapore and offered prayers. Senior BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya was also present on this occasion.
Amit Shah’s visit to West Bengal is considered very important, especially after the attack on the convoy of BJP president JP Nadda and Kailash Vijayvargiya.
