Kolkata: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has arrived in Kolkata on a two-day visit to take stock of the preparations by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in West Bengal ahead of the assembly elections to be held next year.
Today, Amit Shah will address a public rally in Midnapore and may preside over a ceremony during which several rebel Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders will join the BJP.
There is speculation that Shuvendu Adhikari, who left his post in the West Bengal cabinet before breaking ties with TMC, may also join the BJP.
Amit Shah arrived at the Ramakrishna Ashram in Kolkata and here he paid homage to Swami Vivekananda. He will then address a public rally in Medinipur.
