San Francisco: Around a dozen Chinese companies have been added to a trade blacklist by the US government.
The Chinese companies in the US blacklist include chipmaker Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (SMIC) and drone company SZ DJI Technology Co Ltd.
According to the US Department of Commerce, the punitive action against SMIC has been taken due to China’s military-civil fusion (MCF) doctrine and proof of activities between SMIC and entities which are a part of the Chinese military industrial complex.
The “Entity List” designation by the US government is intended to limit the SMIC’s ability to acquire certain US technology as the Chinese entity’s inclusion in the blacklist will require US exporters to apply for a licence to sell to the company.
