UP CM Adityanath sees ‘Talibani mentality’ in Akhilesh Yadav’s Jinnah remarks

Akhilesh Yadav, on Sunday, said Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru and Jinnah fought for India’s independence.

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, on Monday, attacked Samajwadi Party supremo Akhilesh Yadav for comparing Muhammad Ali Jinnah with Sardar Patel and Mahatma Gandhi. “This is shameful. It’s Talibani mentality that believes in dividing. Sardar Patel united the country,” the CM said.

Addressing a rally in Hardoi, Uttar Pradesh on 146th birth anniversary of Sardar Patel, on Sunday, Akhilesh Yadav said, “Sardar Patel understood the ground and he used to make decisions accordingly. Therefore, he was also known as Iron Man. Sardar Patel, the nation’s father Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru and Jinnah became barristers after studying at the same institute. They studied at the same institute, became barristers and fought for India’s independence. They did not step back from any kind of struggle.

The SP chief added, “There was one ideology which was resisted by Sardar Patel. Today, the same people who claim to be uniting the country are dividing you and me on the lines of caste and religion. If we are divided, what will our country be? One feature that’s unique to our country is unity in diversity.”

Akhilesh Yadav’s comments invited sharp criticism from BJP. The party has sought apology from the SP chief and suggested him to read history before making any such comments.
