UP Assembly polls: Priyanka Gandhi promises 20 lakh govt jobs, electricity bill half for all

Ahead of the 2022 Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Saturday flagged off the party’s “Pratigya Yatra” and made seven pledges to the people of the state.

Addressing the gathering in Barabanki, Priyanka Gandhi made several promises to the people including 20 lakh government jobs and half electricity bills for all among others. 

She pledged that if Congress comes to power in Uttar Pradesh next year, then the party will give smartphones to Class 12 girls, and e-scooty to graduate girl students; waive all the loans of farmers; fix wheat and paddy prices at Rs 2500 in Uttar Pradesh and support price of sugarcane will be Rs 400 per quintal; completely waive the electricity bill during the time of COVID-19 pandemic, as well as electricity bill half for all.

Priyanka Gandhi also stated that financial assistance of Rs 25,000 to poor families who were unable to earn during the COVID-19 period will also be given and Congress will provide 20 lakh government jobs in the state if it comes to power.

Earlier, she had announced that the party will field women on 40 per cent seats in the next year’s state assembly polls. 

In the 2017 Assembly elections, the BJP in a landslide victory won 312 seats. The party secured a 39.67 per cent vote share in the elections for 403-member Assembly. Samajwadi Party bagged 47 seats, BSP won 19 while Congress could manage to win only seven seats. (ANI)
