Udaipur: BJP MLA accused of rape for 2nd time in 9 months

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Pratap Gameti has been accused of raping a woman on the pretext of marriage.

Udaipur (Rajasthan): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Pratap Gameti has been accused of raping a woman on the pretext of marriage.

Gameti is a two-time MLA from Gogunda in a row. This is the second time when he has been accused of rape, TOI reported.

In a previous incident around nine months ago, another woman from Madhya Pradesh had filed a complaint against the BJP leader accusing him of raping her on the pretext of marriage.

When contacted for his statement, Gameti told the leading daily, “I will talk about it tomorrow (Friday)”.

In the latest incident, police registered an FIR against Gameti at the Ambamata Police Station in Udaipur. The case was registered after the medical examination of the complainant on Wednesday. The investigation has reportedly been handed over to the state’s CID Crime Branch, which is authorised to probe charges against MPs and MLAs.

In her complaint, the woman alleged that during the COVID-19 lockdown, she was in search of a household job and got in touch with Gameti, police said. On the pretext of helping, Gameti asked her to stay with him. He is said to have assured the woman of marrying her and rape her several time.
