Uber Technologies Inc. is bringing in a new chief technology officer from Amazon.com Inc., Sukumar Rathnam, filling a position that has been vacant for more than three months.
The hiring was announced internally Thursday and was first reported by The Information. An Uber
spokesman confirmed the news to MarketWatch, and said Rathnam would start Sept. 28.
Rathnam has been at Amazon
since 2011, and was most recently a vice president in charge of product selection and catalog systems.
Uber’s former CTO, Thuan Pham, resigned in May after seven years at the ride-hailing giant. Pham left the San Francisco-based company just before it laid off more than 6,000 employees, or 25% of its workforce, as it grappled with a coronavirus-related slowdown in demand for rides.
