Two From Pune Die In Amarnath Cave Cloudburst; Rescue Operation Underway

New Delhi: Two persons hailing from Pune lost their lives in Amarnath cloudburst which took place around 5:30 PM on Friday. The deceased persons have been identified as Pradip Natha Kharade, who reportedly died of heart attack and a woman Sunita Bhosale whose body was recovered from the debris. Indian Army, along with other paramilitary forces, is carrying out rescue operation at the pilgrim site. As per the latest updates, nearly 1500 people have been evacuated. However, the operation is still underway.

Forces are searching for bodies as they are combing through the debris. To take the pilgrim safely out of the area, India Air Force has deployed 4x Mi 17 V5 and 4x Cheetals “to airlift the mortal remains of casualties and injured persons”. Its senior officials are closely monitoring the situation on the ground.

Meanwhile, the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir chaired a high level meeting with the officials regarding the operations at the area.

Lt Governor Chairs High Level Meeting to Review Rescue & Relief Operation at Shri Amarnath ji Holy Cave. The meeting observed two-minute silence to pay tribute to devotees who lost their lives in unfortunate incident yesterday.

“Rescue & relief operation is in full swing as several teams from Army, CAPFs, NDRF & SDRF are on the ground & doing commendable job to clear the debris within shortest period of time”, LG Manoj Sinha said.

He further added, “I request Yatris to stay put in camps. Administration is providing all facilities for their comfortable stay. We are trying our best to restore the Yatra at the earliest.”
