New Delhi (Anish Yande): After several film releases have been shifted to 2021, the upcoming year seems to be a promising year for cinema, with several releases lined up. It remains to be seen whether these films would receive a theatrical release or a release over an OTT platform. Check here for the most anticipated releases in 2021.
Warner Bros announced the reboot of Suicide Squad (2016) following their announcement of Zack Snyder’s Justice League. A large part of the original cast would be reprising their role in James Gunn’s Suicide Squad. Margot Robbie, Viola Davis, and Jai Courtney would be reprising their original roles.
Raya and the Last Dragon:
Disney’s latest original animated film would be releasing on March 5, 2021. The story reportedly revolves around a fantasy land where dragons sacrificed themselves for the good of humanity. The monsters which threatened the existence of humanity have returned and its upon Raya, voiced by Kelly Marie Tran, to find the last dragon.
Last Night in Soho:
Edgar Wright’s next project after Baby Driver, Last Night in Soho, would be released on April 23rd, 2021. Last Night in Soho would be a horror film featuring a fashion designer who travels to meet her singing idol.
The film is set in 1960’s London and would start as a psychological thriller with a slow burn, according to Wright.
Top Gun: Maverick:
Tom Cruise returns to his role as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell. An older Mitchell grapples with his difficult past as he becomes the mentor for a new generation of pilots. Van Kilmer would also be reprising his role as Tom Kazansky. The film is expected to release on July 2, 2021
The screentime adaptation of Arvind Adiga’s book of the same name is set to debut on Netflix next year. The film follows the story of Balram, a village youngster who secures a job as a driver for a wealthy man. However, he uncovers the reality of the lives of the wealthy, exposing a dark underbelly of violence. The movie features Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Rajkummar Rao, Adarsh Gourav and is directed by Raman Bahrani.
