As many as nine people, including four children, lost their lives, while nine others were injured after a house collapsed at Pernambet in Tamil Nadu’s Vellore.
Chennai (Tamil Nadu): Isolated heavy rainfall is very likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Kerala during the next five days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated on Saturday.
“Light to moderate rainfall at many places over Karnataka, Kerala and Mahe and Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal during next two days and reduction thereafter. Isolated heavy rainfall very likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal and Kerala and Mahe during next 5 days and over Coastal and South Interior Karnataka during next two days. Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall also very likely over Coastal and South Interior Karnataka during next 24 hours,” IMD stated.
Following heavy rains in several parts of Tamil Nadu, the Directorate of Elementary Education has issued directives to schools functioning under it, on steps to be taken to ensure student safety during monsoon, The Hindu reported.
The Director of Elementary Education in a circular asked district-level officials, as well as school heads to remain vigilant and ensure that safety measures are implemented on campus.
Meanwhile, Stalin inspected the flood affected coastal areas of Manali Puthunagar, Tamil Nadu CMO reported.
He also inspected the relief camp set up for the people of Manali New Town area affected by the floods caused by the heavy rains in Kosasthalaiyar and inquired about the needs of the people staying there.
