Sony Pictures Sony up for another ‘Spider-Man’ trilogy, two new films with Marvel



New Delhi: Marvel Studios closed 2021 on a high note with December’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, which was arguably the biggest cinematic event since Avengers: Endgame for the MCU. The film bankrolled by Sony Pictures brought the web-slinger into play alongside Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, the MCU’s Spider-Man movies have seen a great deal of success both critically and financially. 

For the upcoming year 2023, Sony has revealed that it is releasing two new Marvel films, although the details regarding the same are kept are under wraps. The two yet-to-be-titled films will be helmed under Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters, a cinematic universe featuring heroes and villains associated with Spider-Man.

Meanwhile, there are also reports that Sony Pictures is looking forward to expand the Spiderverse and bring about new films in the franchise. 

In an interview with Fandango published November 29, Sony Pictures head Amy Pascal said there is more to come in the Spider-Man film series. “This is not the last movie that we are going to make with Marvel – (this is not) the last Spider-Man movie. We are getting ready to make the next Spider-Man movie with Tom Holland and Marvel. We’re thinking of this as three films, and now we’re going to go onto the next three. This is not the last of our MCU movies,” Pascal said.

Sony has made five Spider-Man films from 2002 to 2014, three directed by Sam Raimi with Tobey Maguire as the lead, and two starring Andrew Garfield helmed by Marc Webb.
