New Delhi (Anish Yande): TikTok has become immensely popular in the short-video making sector. The app has been dealing with authorities in the US and India. However, even with several obstacles in its way, the short-video making app remains popular. Snapchat, the photo-messaging platform, was prominent before  TikTok. Now Snapchat has launched its short video-making app to counter TikTok’s prevalence in the market.

Snapchat’s plans for Spotlight:

Spotlight is currently available to users in Canada, Germany, France, New Zealand,  Australia, US. The app would be released to users in other countries soon enough.

The major incentive that Spotlight is offering its users is a chance to earn $1 million by becoming one of the topmost creators on the platform. The company would reward users whose posts go viral with monetary rewards.

The videos that creators post can be up to 60 seconds long. TikTok recently extended the time for its videos up to 60 seconds, where users can connect several videos of 15 seconds.

How to Earn on Spotlight:

In a statement, the company said, that ‘Spotlight is designed to reward creativity in a fair and fun way.’ They said that they were offering more than $1 million to Snapchatters using Spotlight daily.

Snapchat has fixed some conditions for users to adhere to before earning.

The company has said that the user must be 16 years old or older. These users have to acquire parental consent to start earning.

According to Snapchat, the earnings for individual creators shall be determined through their formula. Spotlight users would be rewarded with the formula that measures the number of unique views a post receives within a day. This formula then compares the post with other post’s performance on that day.

Snapchat has stated that this formula is adjusted periodically to accurately gauge user response and views on a post. Spotlight is an app that would prevent ‘echo chambers’ according to Snapchat. The app would actively push new content into users’ feed, the company said.
