According to the US intelligence report, Russian President Vladimir Putin wants Ukraine to be attacked from different locations. It is believed that the Russian army may attack Ukraine via Crimea and Belarus.

Russia has amassed about one lakh soldiers on the border with Ukraine. Seeing Russia’s military readiness on the border, experts fear that this time Russia is going to take a big step.

However, in an interview last week, Russian President Vladimir Putin had made it clear that there were no plans to invade or occupy Ukraine, and that no such preparations had been made. In the same interview, Vladimir Putin had said in a threatening tone that the US should not force Russia to take drastic steps.

At the moment, tensions between Russia and Ukraine are at an all-time high.

In early November, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken had claimed that the United States (US) stands with Ukraine and will do everything possible to help counter the threat from Russia.

Obviously, Ukraine is not in a very strong position against Russia. In such a case, if Ukraine gets support from the US, the war will be extremely terrible.

What is the cause of the dispute?

In 2014, Russia had annexed the Crimean peninsula. Until then, Crimea was part of Ukraine. President Viktor Yanukovych had to resign after the 2014 revolution in Ukraine.

Russia then intervened in Ukraine, sent Russian troops into Crimea and captured it. It was argued that there were many people of Russian descent in Crimea and that it was Russia’s responsibility to protect their interests amid protests.
