Russia fires 6 missiles toward western city of Lviv, two were intercepted: Ukraine troops

Lviv: Russia, on Friday morning, launched six missiles toward the western city of Lviv, the Ukrainian armed forces said.

In a statement on Facebook, the armed forces said the projectiles were most likely cruise missiles fired from warplanes over the Black Sea. “Two of the missiles were intercepted by air defense systems,” it said.

Lviv’s mayor had on Friday said missiles hit an aircraft repair plant near the airport. Work at the plant had stopped before the missiles hit and there were no reports of casualties at this stage, he added.

AFP mentioned its reporter saying that a thick pall of grey smoke streamed across clear blue sky over Lviv’s airport in Western Ukraine at 7:30 a.m. on Friday.

Earlier in the day, television station Ukraine 24 had said at least three explosions were heard in the city.
