Russia bans Facebook

Moscow (Russia): Amid Russia’s ongoing military operations in Ukraine, Moscow on Friday announced that it is blocking Facebook in the country, according to its communications regulator.

The Russian Service for Supervision of Communications, Roskomnadzor, has announced that it will start blocking Facebook over its discrimination against Russian media outlets, Sputnik reported.

“In March 2022, a decision was made to block access to the Facebook network (owned by Meta Platforms, Inc.) in the Russian Federation,” a statement read, CNN reported.

In response, Meta president Nick Clegg said the company was doing “everything we can to restore our services” but that soon Russian users would be cut off from reliable information.
