Rhea Chakraborty’s lawyer slams NCB’s 12k-page charge sheet, says ‘we will have last laugh’

New Delhi: Rhea Chakraborty’s lawyer, Satish Maneshinde, has reacted to the 12,000-page charge sheet that was filed by the Narcotics Control Bureau(NCB) against the actor, her brother Showik Chakraborty and 31 others. Not only the lawyer called it an extended witch hunt, he also mentioned that it was “expected” of the agency.

“All efforts of the NCB have been directed towards Rhea Chakraborty, to somehow rope her in. The entire NCB, from top to bottom was engaged in unearthing the drug angle in Bollywood,” Maneshinde said.

“The charge sheet is a damp squib standing on the foundation of inadmissible evidence and statements recorded under NDPS Act Sec. 67 even after the Supreme Court judgement in the Toofan Singh case. Without Rhea Chakraborty being charged, this case has no substance,” Maneshinde said.

In its charge sheet, the anti-drug agency had said that Rhea was instrumental in procuring and financing drugs for her boyfriend and late actor Sushant Singh Rajput, while her brother Showik was in direct contact with the drug peddlers.

NCB had also added that it has seized various nacrotics drugs Charas, Ganja, LSD, Ecstasy) and psychotropic substances (Alprazolam and Clonazepam).  Rubbishing the agency’s claims, Maneshinde said,”The entire amount of ‘Narcotic Substances’ recovered against the 33 accused are nothing compared to what even a Constable in Mumbai Police or Narcotics Cell or the Airport Customs or other agencies recover from one raid or trap.”

There’s hardly any material against any known faces, who were paraded during the investigations, he said, while adding that the Bombay High Court did not find any prima facie material at the stage of bail of the ‘alleged’ financing of the drugs trade as claimed by the agency.

“We will have the last laugh Satayameva Jayate,” the lawyer concluded.

The NCB had been probing Bollywood drug nexus that emerged after the death of Sushant Singh Rajput.  While Rhea, her brother Showik and several other names indirectly related to the film industry were arrested last year, many A-listers including Deepika Padukone, Shraddha Kapoor, Sara Ali Khan and Rakul Preet Singh was called in by the probing agency for questioning.
