Re-look at the mining policy: Assam leader of opposition to speaker

GUWAHATI: Leader of the Opposition in the Assam Legislative Assembly, Debabrata Saikia has written a letter to speaker and prompt that the home should search enter from consultants on surroundings safety legal guidelines and mining/drilling actions to determine if the present legal guidelines needs to be amended or new laws framed to shield the long-term pursuits of Assam.

Saikia wrote to the Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly, Hitendra Nath Goswami and alleged that lacunae in the coverage had endangered the surroundings and ecological steadiness of Assam and precipitated the catastrophe at Baghjan in Tinsukia district.

Saikia accused the state Government of flouting orders issued by the Supreme Court in addition to the Gauhati High Court in reference to safety of the surroundings and wildlife in Assam.

He requested the Speaker to advise members of the Act Implementation Committee of the Assam Legislative Assembly, who would undertake a three-day go to to the Dehing-Patkai and Baghjan areas from 28
