Rajiv Gandhi Assassination: Ravichandran, one of the convicts in the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, has filed an appeal in the Supreme Court demanding his release. In his appeal, Ravichandran has said that he should be released in the same way as Perarivalan was released.
Ravichandran has also requested the Supreme Court to grant him interim bail till the completion of the case of his release from jail. On May 18, the Supreme Court acquitted Perarivalan, one of the convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case.
Now Ravichandran, one of the 6 convicts, has filed an appeal in the Supreme Court citing the Supreme Court’s Perarivalan order.
Advocate Anand Selvan has filed a petition on behalf of Ravichandran in the Supreme Court. The petition states that Ravichandran has contributed Rs 20,000 to the recently constituted ‘Tamil Chair’ at the Harvard University in the US. He earned this amount by working in jail between 2016 and 2017.
It has also been mentioned in the petition it has been said that it shows that he is a socially conscious person and even if he comes out of jail, he will not be a threat to any person. Also he will not become a negative force in the society. So the Supreme Court should release Ravichandran.
However, it has to be seen what stand the Supreme Court takes in this matter like the Perarivalan case.
