PM Modi will visit West Bengal and Odisha which have been affected by Cyclone Yaas on Friday. First he will reach Bhubaneswar, the capital of Odisha, for a review meeting. After this, PM Modi will conduct an aerial survey of Balasore, Bhadrak and East Medinipur districts. It is in these districts that Cyclone Yaas has caused the most devastation. After this, he will also hold a review meeting in West Bengal.
More than 20 lakh people affected in West Bengal and Odisha
After wreaking havoc in West Bengal and Odisha, Cyclone Yaas has moved ahead, but this storm has left behind a catastrophe. More than 2 million people have been affected by the storm in West Bengal and Odisha. 4 people died due to rain and destruction of homes. Of these, 3 are from Odisha and one from West Bengal.
3 lakh people lost their homes in West Bengal
In the houses of 3 lakh people have been destroyed in this storm, while 134 dams have been damaged, which are being repaired. Winds of 130-145 kmph were experienced here on Wednesday.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will visit the storm affected areas on May 28 and 29 in a helicopter.
Heavy rain in many districts of Bihar
Cyclone Yaas has reached Bihar after causing massive havoc in Odisha and West Bengal. Several districts including Bhagalpur, Supaul, Katihar and Purnia have been experiencing heavy rain along with strong winds.
So far, no loss of life or property has been reported from any district of Bihar. On Wednesday, the Meteorological Department said that the cyclone in Bihar will become less effective and turn into depression. Its speed here will be 30 to 40 kilometers per hour.
