New Delhi: According to data released by the Union Health Ministry, 56,211 new cases of coronavirus have been reported in India over the last 24 hours, bringing the total COVID-19 cases to 1,20 in the country.
The number of people recovering from COVID-19 is now at 1,13,93,021.
The number of active COVID-19 cases has seen a significant increase in recent weeks. According to the Health Ministry update, 271 fresh deaths were recorded in the country in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of deaths to 1,62,114. The active caseload of Covid-19 in the country has increased to 5,40,720. However, 37,028 people have recovered from the COVID-19 pandemic in the last 24 hours.
The 271 new COVID-19 cases include 102 from Maharashtra, 59 from Punjab, 20 from Chhattisgarh, 11 from Kerala, 16 from Karnataka and 14 from Tamil Nadu.
There have been a total of 162114 deaths in the country so far, out of which 54283 from Maharashtra, 6749 from Punjab, 4096 from Chhattisgarh, 4590 from Kerala, 12520 from Karnataka, 12684 from Tamil Nadu, 11012 from Delhi, 10325 from West Bengal, 8790 from Uttar Pradesh and Andhra. There have been 7210 deaths from the state.
According to data released by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), a total of 24,26,50,025 sample tests for coronavirus have been conducted in India till yesterday, of which 7,85,864 lakh samples were tested yesterday.
Under the nationwide vaccination campaign launched on January 16, a total of 6,11,13,354 vaccine doses have been given to the total population in the country.
India has seen a spike in daily caseloads due to spikes in some states. According to the Ministry of Health, six states – Maharashtra, Kerala, Punjab, Karnataka, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu – have contributed the most to new coronavirus cases.
