Panaji (Goa): Shiv Sena and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) will contest the upcoming Assembly elections in Goa together, while their ‘Maha Vikas Aghadi’ alliance partner Congress has decided to go solo in the polls.
‘Maha Vikas Aghadi’ is a political coalition between the three political parties in Maharashtra.
“We held discussions with Congress but no outcome came out of it. Shiv Sena and NCP tried to form a ‘Maha Vikas Aghadi’ like of Maharashtra in Goa but Congress leaders think they can get the majority on their own,” said Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut.
On behalf of NCP, Praful Patel said, “Congress thinks it can fight the Goa Assembly elections on its own. It is up to them. We are not talking to them anymore. NCP and Shiv Sena will fight this election together. NCP will definitely win a few seats in Goa.”
Meanwhile, Aam Aadmi Party national convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is expected to announce the party’s CM candidate for Goa today in Panaji.
“AAP National Convenor and CM of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal will announce the CM Face of AAP Goa in a Press Conference today at 11 AM from Goa,” read a post on the official Twitter handle of the party.
Assembly election will be held in Goa in single-phase on February 14. The counting of votes will take place on March 10.
