Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi said he is not concerned about assembly elections in Punjab. He just believes in implementing the will of the people.
Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi on Thursday said he does not belong to any faction in Congress.
Speaking at News24 Conclave: Manthan 2021 Punjab, the Chief Minister said, “I was never a CM candidate and I did not request the high command. I don’t belong to any faction in my party (Congress).”
He further said he is not working for the government and is instead working for the welfare of the people.
Channi emphasised that he wanted to run a transparent government in Punjab. “All poor and middle class lead a peaceful and happy life. The tax burden has surpassed the income and this cannot continue. My government is working to fix everything for the welfare of people,” he added.
The Chief Minister said he is not concerned about assembly elections in Punjab. He just believes in implementing the will of the people.
The Punjab CM also said that his party has reduced the price of electricity, petrol and diesel. He also said that he wants to end corruption in the state.
“We have shown the people by reducing the rates of electricity, petrol and diesel, this decision of mine will not reduce the treasury of Punjab,” he said.
CM Channi reminisced his humble origins and said that he knew the pain of the poor. “I feel everyone should work together to improve the lives of the people. Ours is an ‘aam aadmi’ (common man) government and will continue to work for the common man,” CM said.
Reciprocating to the kinds words from former CM Captain Amarinder Singh, who had earlier at the conclave said that Channi was a capable man and deserved his position, CM Channi said, “Capt Amarinder Singh always praised my work.”
“I am not working for the government; I am working only for the welfare of the people,” he said.

Praising Rahul Gandhi for elevating him to CMship, Channi said, “I was never a candidate for CM’s post, did not speak to anyone, nor tried. Now even the child of a middle-class family thinks that if Channi can be CM, then I can also be CM in future.”
“It was never decided for me to become CM even before, this revolution has been brought by Rahul Gandhi, he has changed this era,” he added.
