Dy CM Manish Sisodia interacts with 800 Delhi Government School principals, seeks suggestions on the strategy for the new session of 2022-23

To set the targets and strategy for the new academic session (2022-23) from July, Deputy Chief Minister Shri Manish Sisodia held an interaction with the principals of Delhi Government Schools on Thursday. The interaction was attended by over 800 school principals from all across Delhi.

On this occasion, Shri Manish Sisodia instructed the school principals to set minimum benchmarks in their school regarding the school infrastructure, cleanliness, and school environment. He said that in the last seven years, the government has done a lot of work on schools and has given a great model of education. But now it is the responsibility of the school heads to set their own accountability for their school and ensure that nothing in the school falls below the minimum benchmark set by them. For this, the government will provide all the necessary facilities and funds to the schools. Also, schools will be reviewed from time to time by the DoE officials to check the maintenance of schools.

While interacting with the principals, the Deputy Chief Minister said, “Mission Buniyaad classes recently got over and schools have performed very well. But we need to think about our future strategies now, to bridge the learning gap which has widened due to the pandemic in the past two years. We need to start from the point where we left two years ago and strategise accordingly. There is no rush to complete the syllabus. Focus of schools should be on building conceptual understanding.”

Shri Sisodia added that now it’s the responsibility of principals to ensure that no student is left behind, when we move ahead with the next session after summer vacation. Apart from this, along with implementation of programs like Mission Buniyaad, Business Blasters and Mindset Curricula, principals need to ensure that they set a minimum benchmark of quality of education, cleanliness and maintenance of infrastructure in their schools. “The aim of the Delhi government is to provide dignified education spaces to all children coming to Delhi Government schools and not paying attention to the same will be an injustice to children who have chosen our schools over others,” added the Deputy Chief Minister.

The interaction between the Deputy Chief Minister and principals was mostly centered around academic priorities of Delhi Government Schools, cleanliness and maintenance of classrooms and schools and upon developing a positive classroom culture.

Focus on implementation of Mindset Curricula

The Deputy Chief Minister said that schools are implementing the curriculum well and the results are evident. But to make it a huge success the government will need their further support. With the new session principals will have to take the complete responsibility of implementing the curriculum innovatively and properly. “They must ensure that dedicated duration for Mindset Curricula should not be utilized for any other subject”, he said.

Speaking about Business Blasters, Shri Sisodia told the principals that while selecting the ideas for next season of Business Blasters, they should focus on the unique concept of the idea, its benefit to the customers, team strength, passion and excitement and quality of presentation.

Apart from this principals must also take the responsibility of maintaining the positive classroom culture. They should encourage teachers and students to turn classrooms into their area of expression and thoughts, said the Deputy Chief Minister.

The interaction was attended by over 800 principals. Other officials present at the interaction were Director Education Himanshu Gupta, Principal Advisor to Director Education Shailendra Sharma, Additional Director of Education Rita Sharma and Director SCERT Rajanish Kumar Singh.
