Ladakh Standoff: China’s PLA builds 3 runways near LAC amid confrontation with India

Sept. 6, 2020, 12:18 p.m.

Leh: China is building at least three new runways near the Line of Actual Control in Ladakh amid the ongoing military confrontation with India.

On the other hand, the Indian Army is sending more commandos from different parts of northern India to Ladakh, said an army officer, who did not want to be named.

According to military sources, at least three runways are being built near China’s Hotan Air Force Base. The Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) is also building a large weapons base there.

The Hotan base is located 250 kilometers from the Karakoram pass. The distance from there to the Finger Four area of Pangong So in Ladakh is 300 km.

“Negotiations with China at the brigadier level have almost failed,” an Indian Army official said

“The PLA has refused to leave the occupied territory. Instead, the Chinese are pressuring us to leave the area we occupied last week. Our guess is that behind the talks, China is actually building infrastructure fast,” he added.

According to sources, the Indian Army is sending four units of commandos from different parts of northern India to Ladakh. Among them is a paramilitary commando unit.
