Key battle of democracy to be fought in Bengal, says Prashant Kishor

New Delhi: Poll strategist Prashant Kishor on Saturday said that one of the key battles for democracy in the country will be fought in West Bengal. The assembly elections are starting on March 27. He also tweeted the main slogan of TrinaMool Congress – “Bengal only wants its own daughter”.

“One of the key battles FOR DEMOCRACY in India will be fought in West Bengal, and the people of Bengal are ready with their MESSAGE and determined to show the RIGHT CARD – #BanglaNijerMeyekeiChay (Bengal Only Wants its Own Daughter) PS: On 2nd May, hold me to my last tweet,” he wrote on twitter.

The Election Commission on Friday announced that the elections in West Bengal will be held in eight phases, starting from March 27 to April 29. The results for the polls will be declared on May 2. The dates for eight days of voting are March 27, April 1, April 6, April 10, April 17, April 22, April 26 and April 29.

The Election Commission feared that the decision to increase phases for polls could lead to political violence.

However, CM Mamata Banerjee questioned over the dates. “Bihar has 240 seats and has elections in three phases. Tamil Nadu has 234 seats and will have an election in one day. Why eight phases here? Who is benefitting…This is as per BJP requisition,” she said on Friday.

The Centre announced several infrastructural projects for the State as well as Central government. On the other hand, the Trinamool Congress has also launched several schemes of its own to counter the BJP. Ahead of polls, the party also announced the intentions to provide free Covid-19 vaccines.
