Southampton: Former England captain Kevin Pietersen has talked about the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) final between India and New Zealand in Southampton, said such an important game should not be played in the UK.
The first day of the WTC Finals was washed out due to rain and after poorly lighted play on the second and third days in Ageas Bowl pitch. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has made a reserve day for Tests on 23 June, and matches at this level are expected to last until the sixth day. Pietersen suggested Dubai as a suitable venue for matches like the historic WTC Finals.
“If it was up to me, Dubai would always host a one-off match like this WTC game. The neutral venue, fabulous stadium, guaranteed weather, excellent training facilities, and a travel hub! Oh, and ICC home is next to the stadium,” said Pietersen in a tweet.
Pietersen also said, “The weather isn’t predictable at all. A one-off cannot be guaranteed to have the weather this match needs.”
Former India opener Virender Sehwag also responded to constant rain interruption during the final of WTC, wrote, “Batsman ko bhi Timing nahi mili dhang ki, aur ICC ko bhi. #WTCFinal.”
The first session of the fourth day of the World Test Championship final has been washed out without any game due to rain.
