The Sagun area encounter started between terrorists and security forces on Tuesday evening. The gunbattle took place after security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation on the basis of specific information.

The police asked the holed up terrorists to surrender but they refused and instead began shooting triggering the encounter. There was heavy volume of firing by the terrorists.

“One more unidentified terrorist killed in Shopian encounter, total terrorists killed in the encounter is three. Search going on,” the police said.

Meanwhile, Pakistan used small arms and mortar shelling to target Indian positions on the Line of Control (LoC) on Wednesday in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

“Pakistan initiated the unprovoked ceasefire violation along the LoC in the Keran sector of Kupwara district in the afternoon today by firing mortars and other weapons,” Defence Ministry spokesman Colonel Rajesh Kalia said.

“Indian positions were giving befitting replies,” he added.

One JCO of the army was martyred in Pakistan ceasefire violation on the LoC in Rajouri district of Jammu division on Tuesday.
