Kartik Aaryan drops first social media post since ‘Dostana 2’ controversy

New Delhi: Actor Kartik Aaryan is an avid social media user. On Friday, Kartik Aaryan took to his official Instagram handle and shared a monochrome photo sporting a black hoodie teamed with a black jacket and a prominent, matching black mask. His long hair flying in the air create a dramatic overall impact in the picture.  Kartik reminded his fans to wear a mask for protection amid the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic in India. This is his first post since the Dostana 2 recasting controversy. For the unversed, Dharma Productions showed the exit door to the actor while dropping him from the much-awaited film ‘Dostana 2’, citing creative differences.

Karan Johar’s Dharma Production issued a statement stating that they will be recasting for Dostana 2. The makers are yet to confirm the new cast of the film. “Due to professional circumstances, on which we have decided to maintain dignified silence- we will be recasting Dostana 2, directed by Collin D’Cunha. Please wait for the official announcement soon (sic),” the statement read.

The sequel to the 2008 hit, starring Priyanka Chopra, John Abraham and Abhishek Bachchan, is being helmed by Collin D’Cunha and features Janhvi Kapoor as the leading lady. The film will also mark the Bollywood debut of television actor Lakshya. It was in November 2019 that Kartik Aaryan and Janhvi Kapoor began shooting for Dostana 2 in Amritsar. Kartik took to his Instagram account and shared a picture of himself and Karan Johar. In the photo, Kartik can be seen taking the filmmaker’s blessings before kick-starting Dostana 2. The team wrapped up the second schedule of the film around Christmas 2019.

Kartik, who was excited to be a part of the project, had earlier told news agency PTI: “The evolution is from one Dostana to the other. Dostana one that released in 2008 and the Dostana 2 that’s releasing in 2020, you will see that the representation is accurate, non-caricaturish and on point, talking about sexuality in a way that will not make you cringe while watching it. So therein lies the fact that in the last 12 years, there has been a solid change in the way we depict gay characters. Even in Kapoor & Sons and the way it was depicted.” While Kartik Aaryan is out of Dostana 2, Janhvi Kapoor and Lakshya are still part of the cast
