New Delhi: Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut is all set expand her Manikarnika franchise and will star in the titular role of the second instalment. Reportedly, the second instalment of the franchise has been titled Manikarnika Return: The Legend of Didda.
As per the sources close to the development, from production to direction, Kangana is planning to scale up everything as she intends to make a film of international caliber. The source added that the makers also have plans to extend the franchise which will see every instalment celebrating real life heroics of Indian women.
The motive behind the franchise is to tell the story of forgotten sheroes who have sacrificed their everything to construct the Bharat that it is today without getting much credit, the source said.
For the second film, Kangana will again team up with Kamal Jain, who had produced 2019 film Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi. Reportedly, the actor met the producer last week to discuss the materialisation of the project.
Mankarnika: The Queen of Jhansi starred Kangana in the titular role and told the life chronicles of Rani Lakshmi Bai of Jhansi. Made on a high scale budget, the film failed to impress critics and did not do very well at the box office as well. On the other hand, Didda was the Queen of Kashmir who locked horns with Mehmood Ghaznavi twice and emerged as winner every time that they fought.
Kanagna currently has a number of pictures lined up in her pipeline for the next two years. She will first complete her pending projects and then start shooting for the Manikarnila: The Legend of Didda in 2022. She is currently shooting for her sports drama Dhaakad. Beofre it, she had wrapped up the shooting of Thalaivi. Recently, she also met with Home Minister Rajnath Singh to discuss the script of her film Tejas. K
