Jobless man visits police station to lodge theft complaint, ‘steals’ Rs16,000 from another man’s bag

The accused, police said, allegedly stole the money when he was told to wait by a officer, who told Bose that he would furnish a list of documents that he needed to attach to his complaint.

Kolkata:  A 31-year-old man who had gone to a police station to lodge a cyber theft complaint, allegedly himself stole Rs 16,000 from an unattended bag .

The bag, reportedly belonged to a civic volunteer. The incident took place at the Cyber Crime police station in Salt Lake.

The accused, identified as Avishek Bose, is said to be a resident of AD Block of the township. 

A Bidhannagar commissionerate official said Bose had visited the police station on October 26 to lodge a complaint, alleging that mney had been deducted from his account and his bank account balance reflected reduced amount though he had not withdrawn any money. 

The accused, police said, allegedly stole the money when he was told to wait by a officer, who told Bose that he would furnish a list of documents that he needed to attach to his complaint.

In the lobby, where he was sitting, a bag was lying and since nobody was around, Bose allegedly scoured through the bag and decamped with the moneyhe found inside. 

Bose was caught red-handed after CCTV footage was checked.
