New Delhi: At least 10 top commanders of the ‘Hamas’, an extremist group of Palestine, have been killed in Israeli airstrikes in the Gaza Strip, toppling a pair of high-rise towers housing Hamas facilities.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the brigade commander for Gaza City was among 15 other Hamas members who had been killed on Wednesday. “This is just the beginning. We’ll hit them like they’ve never dreamed possible,” he said.
But the Islamic group showed no signs of backing down and fired hundreds of rockets at Israeli cities, killing Six people and dozens bounded.
Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Antony J Blinken called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to reaffirm America’s support for Israel’s right to defend itself from Hamas rocket attacks from Gaza. The State Department said that he stressed on the need for de-escalation of violence and the Biden administration’s belief that both Israelis and Palestinians have the right to live in safety and security.
Clashes between Palestinians and Israel in the Gaza Strip and Jerusalem have escalated since Monday, by growing unrest over control of Jerusalem and attempts by Jewish settlers to take over Arab-controlled communities.
The tensions have spilled over into the West Bank, where hundreds of residents in Arab communities staged overnight protests against recent actions of Israeli security forces against Palestinians.
