IPL 2021: Kohli says he sees ‘positive energy’ in Maxwell for this season

New Delhi: Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Virat Kohli said that he sees positive energy in Glenn Maxwell ahead of the new season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). RCB bought Maxwell for Rs 14.25 crore at the mini-auction this season.

RCB uploaded a video on their You tube page in which skipper Kohli can be seen saying, “He’s a good guy, we’ve caught up in the past as well when I was in Australia on a tour. He’s just very happy to be in RCB and I see different energy about him this time.

“We wanted Maxi, specifically targeted him at the auction in February. You obviously feel great when things end up happening to where you thought they would,” Kohli further said.

Kohli said that spinner Adam Zampa had handed over an RCB cap to Maxwell before the auction itself. “Zamps sent me that picture of them (Zampa and Maxwell) at a practice session handing over the RCB cap even before the auction happened. Zamps a very funny guy, thought it was hilarious and I sent it to Maxi as well,” said Kohli.

Australian all-rounder Maxwell was bought by RCB for Rs 14.25 crore in the auction this year. Last year, he couldn’t perform well and was, therefore, released by Punjab Kings.

Earlier, Maxwell said in a video interview shared by the franchise on their Youtube page, “Not really [surprised], I thought there might be a little bit of interest. I think a lot of teams want that middle-order player, I knew there were a couple of teams who were looking for a middle-order player who can bowl off-spin as well. I am just glad two teams went hard for me and in the end, RCB got hold of me”.

“So, I am not overly concerned. I think my performances will take care of themselves. I want to have a positive influence on everything I do, as far as attitude, helping out the team, leadership-wise helping out [skipper] Virat [Kohli] when he needs it, and off the field, at training, and making sure the young guys are still developing as well,” he added.
