India tour of Sri Lanka: Rahul Dravid to be head coach of Team India on this tour

New Delhi: Former India captain and current National Cricket Academy (NCA) chief Rahul Dravid will be the coach of Team India for three ODIs and three T20 matches against Sri Lanka in July. Earlier, during his tour of England in 2014, he worked as a batting consultant.

Speaking to news agency ANI, a BCCI official confirmed this. He said that Ravi Shastri, Bharat Arun, and Vikram Rathore would be in England along with the Test team for five Test matches and the World Test Championship final during the time India’s Test match specialists play in Sri Lanka. In such a situation, Dravid will take over the responsibility of coach for the tour of Sri Lanka. However, an official confirmed that the series is on schedule as of now but the boards are keeping an eye on the situation.

“There has been no change in the plan since the announcement of the series by the BCCI president Sourav Ganguly. However, both boards may have to keep an eye on the situation,” said the official.

Dravid has earned accolades for discovering and grooming talent during his tenure as the India A and India Under-19 sides. Before taking over as the head of NCA in 2019, Dravid had teamed up with youth at the under-19 level as well as the India ‘A’ team. In fact, he has played an integral role in building solid bench strength for the national team over the years.

The Indian team for the Sri Lanka series is expected to be announced at the end of the month and the players will have to stay in quarantine before playing three ODIs and three T20 Internationals. The three ODIs will be played from July 13 to 19 and the T20 matches are likely to be played between July 22-27.
