India enhances diplomatic strength at its UN mission as it readies to sit at UNSC high-table 

The diplomatic strength at the Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations (PMI) is being enhanced as India readies to sit within the UN Security Council as a non-permanent member starting January 1, 2021.

Sources mentioned 4 diplomats will be part of India’s Permanent Mission over the course of the following 2-Three months, in time as India begins its two year-term at the Council from January 1, 2021.

The diplomats who will be part of the PMI group, beneath the management of India’s Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador T S Tirumurti, are R Ravindra (IFS: 1999), who’s at the moment Joint Secretary (Central and West Africa Division), Pratik Mathur (IFS 2007), at the moment posted as Deputy Secretary, Prime Minister’s Office, Ashish Sharma (IFS 2009) and Rajesh Parihar (IFS 2009), who’s First Secretary (Economic & Commerce) at the Indian Embassy in Beijing.

India’s Permanent Mission to the UN at the moment has 14 diplomats. Ambassador Ok Nagaraj Naidu is the Deputy Permanent Representative.

The endorsed candidate from the Asia-Pacific States, India gained 184 votes out of the 192 ballots forged within the elections in June for 5 non-permanent seats of the Security Council, the world group’s strongest organ.

In 2021, India, Norway, Ireland, Kenya and Mexico will sit within the Security Council together with 5 everlasting members China, France, Russia, UK and the US as properly as non-permanent members Estonia, Niger, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Tunisia and Vietnam.

Previously, India has been elected as a non-permanent member of the Council for the years 1950—1951, 1967—1968, 1972—1973, 1977—1978, 1984—1985, 1991—1992 and most not too long ago in 2011—2012.

India has been at the forefront of the years-long efforts to reform the Security Council saying it rightly deserves a spot as a everlasting member of the Council, which in its present type doesn’t signify the geo-political realities of the 21st Century.
