Lakhimpur Kheri (Uttar Pradesh): This district is fast becoming the road rage capital of Uttar Pradesh. Not just SUVs are running over protesting people, but buses are now mowing down wild animals and even monkeys while passing through the famed Dudhwa Tiger Reserve.

A bus driver has been fined Rs2.5 lakh for mowing down a monkey while speeding through the forest area.

The bus driver tried to flee the scene of the accident, but was caught, detained and the bus impounded, forest official said.

The bus, belonging to a local transporter is reported to be plying between Palia and Gola towns in Lakhimpur Kheri district.

Forest officials said the driver was only fined as monkey does not fall under Schedule 1 and the accident was reported on a state highway. The driver would have been arrested and sent to jail, otherwise.
