Hera Pheri turns 21: Suniel Shetty, Akshay Kumar turn nostalgic over iconic blockbuster

New Delhi: On Wednesday, Priyadarshan’s directorial film Hera Pheri completed 21 years of release. The film, which released on March 31, 2000, is counted among the best Bollywood comedies. Recalling the good old days on the 21st anniversary of Hera Pheri’s release, Suniel Shetty, who was among the lead actors in the film, wrote on Twitter, “No wonder we underestimate how quickly time flies. It seems I blinked, and 21 years went by. What a film we made @priyadarshandir @akshaykumar @SirPareshRawal @GulshanGroverGG #Tabu. Missing #OmPuri ji very dearly today…”

Within no time, Akshay Kumar also jumped on the bandwagon of memories. He wrote, “Agreed! Even we didn’t know back then what a film we were making, each scene better than the other. Specially love this one : dhoti Genius of Priyan sir and epic dialogues by late Neeraj Vora.”

Actor Gulshan Grover, who essayed the role of Kabira in the movie, also celebrated the 21 years of the movie by sharing a small clip from it. Along with it, he wrote, “21 years of #Herapheri , what a film by director Priyadarshan @priyadarshandir Producer #firozNadiadwala and brilliant actors @akshaykumar @SunielVShetty @SirPareshRawal #Tabu #Asrani ji , late #OmPuri ji and #KabiraSpeaking.”

Released in 2000, Hera Pheri is the official Hindi remake of Malayalam film Ramji Rao Speaking. Hera Pheri revolved around a quirky, kind-hearted garage owner Baburao Ganpatrao Apte (Rawal), a cunning loafer Raju (Kumar) and a struggling man Shyam (Shetty).The sequel to “Hera Pheri”, titled “Phir Hera Pheri”, was released in 2006. While the three heroes returned, Bipasha Basu and Rimi Sen were cast as female leads, and late Neeraj Vora took over as director. Several media reports suggest that the makers are planning to come up with the third part of the film. However, there has been no official confirmation yet
