Ranchi: Chief Minister Hemant Soren has given a cash prize of Rs 50 lakh to Deepika Kumari, daughter of Jharkhand, who brought India’s name to the world. Deepika has won three gold medals for India in the Archery World Cup held in Paris last month. The pair of Deepika and her husband Atanu Das have already qualified for the Olympics. Medals are also expected from both of them.
The Chief Minister virtually met the players of Jharkhand on Saturday. Along with this, the Chief Minister has announced to give Rs 2 crore to the players of Jharkhand who won the gold medal in the Olympics to be held in Tokyo from July 23, Rs 1 crore to the silver medal winner, and Rs 75 lakh to the bronze medal winner.
Along with this, Ankita Bhakat and Komalika Bari, who were part of Deepika’s team in Paris, have announced Rs 20 lakh each. Coach Poornima Mahato will be given Rs 12 lakh. Nikki Pradhan and Salima Tete, who were selected in the Indian Women’s Hockey team for the Olympics, have been announced Rs 5 lakh each.
In Paris, Deepika along with first husband Atanu Das hit gold in a mixed event. The Indian women’s recurve team led by Deepika won the gold. Apart from Deepika, the Indian team included Ankita Bhagat and Komolika Bari. After this, till the end of the day, Deepika gave gold to the country in the individual event as well. Deepika, who won three gold in a day, is expected to perform similarly in the Olympics. This year the Tokyo Olympics are to be held from 23 July to 8 August.
Nikki Pradhan hails from a small Hesel village, 65 km from Ranchi. Nikki started playing hockey at a very young age. After this, she nurtured her talent at Bariatu Girls Hockey Center. 27-year-old Nikki has also been a part of the team in the Rio Olympics. At that time she was the first player from Jharkhand to play hockey in the Indian Women’s Hockey team. Apart from this, Salima Tete made her debut against Belarus in 2017. 19-year-old Tete hails from a small township in the Simdega district.
