Farhan Akhtar’s ‘Toofaan’ release date postpones, was set to release on Amazon Prime Video on May 21

New Delhi: The coronavirus pandemic has caused uproar in the country at the moment. Hospitals are suffering from a lack of beds, medicines, and oxygen. People are being killed for lack of treatment. These scary situations have also affected the entertainment industry. Many film releases have been postponed and also the shootings have been stopped.

Although the release of films and web series on digital platforms continues, Farhan Akhtar has decided not to release his film ‘Toofaan’ on the OTT platform until the situation becomes normal, so that all the attention is focused on the country’s biggest problem, the coronavirus. Farhan’s company Excel Entertainment has issued a statement in this regard, which states, ‘The situation in India is truly heart-breaking, and we at Excel Entertainment and ROMP Pictures send our thoughts and prayers to everyone affected by the pandemic. In light of the severity of the situation, our focus is completely on the pandemic and on supporting our employees, their families, and in helping the wider community.’

He further added, ‘Therefore, we have taken the decision to postpone the release of our film ‘Toofaan’ until the situation improves. We will issue an update regarding the new release date in due course of time. Please continue to observe Covid Appropriate Behaviour. Also, please register and get vaccinated when it’s your turn. On behalf of the entire team of Toofaan, we urge you to Stay Home, Stay Safe and Stay United. Jai Hind.’

In a situation where most producers are finding a way to OTT due to their films not being able to release in theaters, Farhan’s announcement was a surprise, as the film was already coming on the OTT platform. The Rakesh Omprakash Mehra- directed ‘Toofaan’ was scheduled to be streamed on Amazon Prime Video on May 21. Farhan plays a street boxer in the film, it also stars Mrunal Thakur and Paresh Rawal in pivotal roles.
