Erratic rainfall hits crop planting as sowing slows down in Gujarat, Rajasthan

NEW DELHI: Erratic rainfall has slowed down crop planting, which is now 14% above final 12 months’s degree, down from being 21% forward per week in the past.

“The hole is narrowing. Farmers aren’t in a position to plant crops in flood affected components of Assam and Bihar. Similarly, sowing has slowed resulting from a hiatus in monsoon in states like Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Gujarat though general rainfall in the season has been regular,” mentioned a senior agriculture division official.

Area below rice is up 19% at 26.65 mn hectares regardless of low sowing in Assam, Punjab and Maharashtra.

Similarly, pulses acreage has risen 19.26%. Area below oilseeds has gone up by 16.80%.
