‘Disappeared’: Congress Youth Wing’s Jibe At Smriti Irani Over Skyrocketing LPG Cylinder Prices

New Delhi: Indian Youth Congress (IYC) on Thursday put up several posters in the national capital while taking a jibe at Union Cabinet Minister Smriti Irani reminding the latter of vigorous protests over Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) price before the Narendra Modi-led NDA government came into power.

The posters mentioned the prices of cylinder during the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government comparing it with the current prices. There appeared to be a big difference between the two prices. The IYC claimed that in 2014, the cylinder prices were Rs 410 whereas, the current prices of per cylinder has now rose up to Rs 1,053.

It should be noted that, on Wednesday, the prices of LPG was hiked by Rs 50. India witnessed such increase in the cylinder rate for the fourth time since March.

The poster pasted by the Congress’ student wing compared her reaction on 2022 LPG prices to that of 2014. In addition to that, the posters also highlight the price difference between UPA government and Modi government.

A day earlier, the IYC activists held a protest outside the residence of the Union minister demanding her to break her silence over the price hike.

‘Search for Smriti Irani’

IYC president Srinivas BV posted a video of the area where the posters were put and made a sarcastic comment on the Union Minister.

He said, “Since Smriti Irani Ji disappeared on the streets, we’ve begun our search.”

“8 years of relentless loot and Cylinderella keeps mum, why?,” posted official account of IYC on Twitter.

The IYC targeted Irani as she actively participated against the UPA government for hike in LPG cylinder rates. During that time, Irani slammed the Congress repeatedly and questioned the latter for not fulfilling its promises to reduce the inflation.
