New Delhi: AAP National Convenor and Delhi CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal addressed a Kisan Mahapanchayat in Jind, Haryana on Sunday. Addressing the farmers gathered at the meet, he said that he is ready to give up anything he must to make the farmers’ protest successful because he is a true patriot. He said that he is punished for backing and supporting the farmers because the BJP has brought a new bill that takes all the powers of an elected CM and gives it to LG. He said that to work for the public, it is not power that is required, but the will to do so. BJP has powers, but it lacks the will, AAP does not have powers but its intent to work for the people is clear. He said that even today, he has not changed one bit and working with the same honesty, and so all other political parties are against him. He said that he has only one dream – to make India the world’s number one country. He said that he would support the farmers’ protest till the end, no matter what price he has to pay.
AAP National Convenor and Delhi CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal said, “I would like to welcome all you, all my brothers, sisters, mothers, elders, and children who have come here from all parts of Haryana. First of all, I would like to pay my respect to more than 300 farmer leaders who were martyred to whom we just paid tribute. On behalf of the citizens of our country, I would like to bow down to them for their martyrdom as they happily gave up their lives, fighting for the cause of the farmers. Now it is our collective responsibility, the entire country’s responsibility, your and mine too that their martyrdom should not go to waste. We have to fight till the end.”
Shri Arvind Kejriwal said, “It was recently brought to light that they lathi-charged farmers in Rohtak. This is unacceptable. In a country in which farmers are not respected, such a country can never prosper. The governments must cooperate with the farmers or lathi-charge them? We strongly condemn this. And today it was told that farmers have resorted to ‘chakka jam’ in the entire Haryana. We are with the farmers in their struggle. When I came here, it did consume a lot of time since I had to change the route multiple times. But I have no issues. I have found out that many people who wanted to attend this meet today, are stuck in the ‘chakka jam’ in various places. I would like to apologize to them that we had to start this meet right now as many people have been here since 11 AM, and they had to return too. Today I am present here only for you all, I could have stayed here the entire day for them but since I got to know that people had started leaving the venue, I thought I should talk to you. I would like to apologize to those stuck in a jam and have been unable to reach the venue.”
“When the central government passed the three black laws, farmers from all parts of the country were in deep grief. However, all of them were thinking as to who would lead the way and struggle for their cause. It was at that time that farmers of Punjab and Haryana stepped forward and lead the way,” he added.
Shri Kejriwal said, “A few days ago I visited Punjab and attended the Maha Panchayat, thanked the farmers of Punjab, and today I am here to thank the farmers of Haryana. It was the farmers of Punjab and Haryana who provided the leadership in fighting for the cause of the farmers, against the three black laws. The entire country is with you. Whether the media portrays it or not, you must not worry. I am related to Aam Aadmi but the entire country is with you, all farmers are with you.”
AAP National convenor Shri Arvind Kejriwal said that a farmer from Gujarat may be unable to reach the Delhi border, a farmer from Tamil Nadu may be unable to reach the Delhi border, and a farmer from Assam may be unable to reach the Delhi border. “But this doesn’t mean that he’s not with you. Every morning each farmer of this country prays for those sitting at the Delhi borders, that this struggle must be successful. Ever since the struggle started, from the very first day itself, Aam Aadmi Party, Arvind Kejriwal, and the Delhi Government have been supporting the farmers at each step. I remember when the farmers of Punjab and Haryana marched towards the Delhi border, then Haryana Government resorted to the use of tear gas, barricading the borders and lathi-charging the farmers. But look at the strength of our farmers that despite all this, our farmers reached the Delhi border,” added the CM.
Shri Kejriwal said that at that time the BJP led central government schemingly thought that as soon as the farmers would reach Delhi, they will be locked inside the 9 huge stadiums which would be turned into jails. He said, “It was sheer good luck as the law stated that the power of turning stadiums into jails rests with the Chief Minister of Delhi, after which I received a file and multiple phone calls from the central government. They put high pressure stating that the creation of jails was necessary in order to prevent a law and order crisis. They also threatened me stating that they would seize all my power but I did not agree and rejected their file, claiming that the farmer’s protest and their demands are all valid and must be fulfilled with immediate effect and the proposal of Delhi Police to turn stadiums into jails was rejected.”
Shri Kejriwal said, “The BJP was really upset and angered by this. Then I asked all my MPs and MLAs to serve the farmers at Delhi borders just like an ordinary citizen – do not wear the cap or carry a flag; do not take the name of ‘Aam Aadmi Party’ or ‘Kejriwal’. We are not here for politics. Go to the border and serve the farmers. The Delhi Government arranged for food, water, and washrooms. At one instance, some farmers came up to me and said that they were unable to contact their families due to the low signal after which the Delhi Government provided for free Wi-Fi at the Delhi border. We did all that we can and the day when that incident occurred with Shri Rakesh Tikait was the evening of 28th or 29th January. I switched on the TV and saw that he was crying. I was not able to stop myself. I first asked Shri Sanjay Singh who called him, after which I personally called Shri Rakesh Tikait and spoke with him directly. I told him that he must not feel low, the entire country is with him. Please let me know what your needs are. He told me that the Yogi Government cut off their electricity, water, and toilets. I asked him not to worry and told him that all of this would be provided for by Delhi within an hour.”
“Within an hour we sent generators and provided for electricity, water and toilets. I am glad that even after four months, the farmer’s protest is still going on. The opposition was not able to do anything about it and this is the reason why it is so upset with me and now, it has introduced a new bill in Parliament to punish me. We have incurred a huge loss for supporting the farmer’s protest. We are punished for backing and supporting the farmers,” added Shri Kejriwal.
Shri Arvind Kejriwal said that the Parliament passed a bill stating that the elected government officials and the Chief Minister would have no power- all of which is to be given to the Lt. Governor. “Is this why we fought for Independence?,” he asked. “We fought for it so that citizens gain power, vote for their representatives, and elect their government who in turn would work for the citizens. What sort of a law is this that the government which was given 62 out of 70 seats by the people at one instance and 66 in another, has no power but the Lt Governor does? When this Bill was being discussed in the Parliament, Shri Sushil Gupta was present there. Every MP of BJP stood up and said that the Kejriwal government supported the farmers for which we want to punish them. All of you can listen to their speeches on social media and YouTube wherein these BJP members were openly challenging and stating that the Delhi CM supported the farmer’s protest and this is the reason why he is being punished,” added Shri Kejriwal.
He said, “I would like to tell them that 300 farmers were martyred and even if I lose my life in this protest, I am not scared of your punishments. It is the responsibility of each Indian citizen and patriot – who claims to love India – to support the farmer’s protest. A person who is with the protestors is a patriot and one who is against them is a traitor.”
Shri Arvind Kejriwal said, “Through this platform, I would like to tell you that to make this protest successful I am ready to give up anything I must. A day before yesterday I was talking to Shri Sushil Gupta overcall. He told me that they have been going from village to village to prepare for this Maha Panchayat. He told me that the villagers are not allowing members of any other party to enter but when members of the Aam Aadmi Party visit them, they invite them to their home and serve them milk. In villages where members of all other parties cannot enter and in areas where they are being chased out, the workers of AAP are being given due respect claiming that it is a party of the farmers. If there is a party that thinks of the well-being of the farmers, it is Aam Aadmi Party. This is a matter of great joy and respect for me that farmers think of me as their younger brother, their son, and consider me as their well-wisher. I do not need any other medal. There is nothing more important to me than this. For this, if the central government wishes to punish me, they should go ahead, I do not care.”
Shri Arvind Kejriwal said that he entered politics to serve the people and the country. It has been 6 years while running the Delhi Government and AAP has worked a lot in these last 6 years – established schools, hospitals, provided free electricity, free water, women do not have to pay any fare for traveling in buses. Roads are being constructed and a lot of other development has taken place. In these 6 years, while AAP is working for the development of Delhi, the BJP in every 6 to 7 months sought to take away AAP’s powers.
He said, “I would like to tell the BJP – you are quite powerful now, you are the most powerful party in our country with the government in the centre and numerous other states. Even after all this, Kejriwal established multiple schools in Delhi but the BJP could not even establish a single school, college, or hospital in the entire country. Let me know if they have done so in your district or village? In contrast, they have shut them down.”
Shri Arvind Kejriwal said, “Even after having access to so much power and resources, they took away my powers; and could not even establish even a single school, hospital or college. I would like to tell the BJP that in order to build schools and hospitals; and to serve the public, it is not power that is required, but the will to do so. You do have powers, but you lack the will. Kejriwal doesn’t have as many powers but his intent is clear. You can take away as many powers as you want, schools and hospitals were established in Delhi and this would continue. The work that BJP led central government and their state governments could not accomplish in the past 5 years, I challenge that we have done that our government has done that much work in Delhi. You might go anywhere- Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, South India – ask any person if Kejriwal has worked for people’s welfare in Delhi, they would tell you that the condition of schools has improved.”
“You might go to Eastern India, Nagaland, Tripura, Bengal, or Bihar and ask any person whether Kejriwal has worked in Delhi. He would answer that the hospitals have improved. You can go to Jammu and Kashmir and ask them whether Kejriwal has worked in Delhi or not and any person would say that electricity is provided for free. You can go to Gujarat and ask the same, anyone would say that the provision of water, schools, and hospitals are looked after. You can go to any part of the country and ask whether BJP has done anything in the past five years, they would say that they destroyed the farmers, traders, youth and everything else. There are so many people present here, tell me in spite of all the power that BJP has, what work have they. Hence, they have a lot of power but their intent is not clear,” said the CM.
Shri Arvind Kejriwal said that in the last 75 years, only two parties have ruled the country- BJP and Congress. Today the citizens will ask that if in five years the condition of the Delhi government can improve, then why wasn’t BJP and Congress able to do this in 75 years. Today, the citizens will ask that if in five years Delhi has 24 hours free electricity for everyone then why wasn’t this done by BJP and Congress in the last 75 years? The citizens of Delhi would ask them this and they would have to answer. All these party members are against me because they want me to become like them. In the last 75 years, all these party leaders have looked at their own benefit and have done nothing other than that. “Even today, I am standing here in front of you just as I was 10 years ago. I have not changed one bit and working with the same honesty. All of the other leaders and parties want me to become like them- gain a little myself and let them gain too. Then they would not have taken away my powers or be against me,” said Shri Kejriwal.
He said, “They are against me because I did not become like them and I’m still serving the citizens and the country. When we were young kids, the Master used to teach us that there are three types of countries in the world – developed countries that are rich, developing countries; and underdeveloped countries. We were taught that India is a developing country and we used to ask the teacher that if this is the case, when would it become ‘developed’. When would it join the category of rich countries? To this, he used to answer that it would happen in 5-10 years. However, it has been 40 years, all parties have come and gone even today, the same is being taught to my son.”
Shri Arvind Kejriwal said, “This is not how we would achieve it. Not relying on these parties. I have only one dream – to make India the number one nation in the world. Delhi has transformed in 5 years. It was in terrible condition but now the citizens of Delhi are so content that last time 66 seats were given and this time 62. I have transformed Delhi and I would not die before seeing India as the world’s number one country. To all farmers present here I would like to say – don’t worry, the CM of Delhi is your son. No matter what price I have to pay I would support the farmers’ protest till the end. Doesn’t matter how much time it takes but the BJP government would have to concede to the demands of the farmers.”
