Covid update: India logs 17,070 new cases, 23 deaths

New Delhi:India registered 17,070 new cases of the novel coronavirus, the Health Ministry data showed. Additionally, 23 new coronavirus related fatalities pushed India’s tally of cases to 4,34,69,234, the death toll to 5,25,139. The country saw a total of 14,413 discharges in the last 24 hours, taking the total recovery rate at around 98.55 per cent and total recoveries data reached to 4,28,36,906.

The data also showed that the total number of active patients, which crossed the 100,000-mark on Thursday, climbed further to 107,189, up by 2,634. Recoveries, deaths and active patients account for 98.55%, 1.21% and 0.24% respectively.

ICMR Testing:

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 86,28,77,639 samples have been tested up to June 30 for COVID-19. Of these 5,02,150 samples were tested on Thursday.

Covid vaccination drive

Under the Covid vaccination drive, more than 197.74 crore vaccine doses have been administered to people across the country so far. India’s Covid-19 tally surpassed the 1-crore mark on December 19, 2020. The country crossed the grim milestone of 2 crore on May 4, 2021, and 4 crore on January 25 this year.

Amid the surge of covid cases in some parts of the country, the Centre on Tuesday has directed States and UTs to focus on accelerating second and precaution doses of Covid-19 vaccination.
