Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Thursday said that the bodies of covid-19 victims dying at home must be handled by relatives themselves while adding that the civic body will assist them in the process. As per the authorities, the ward officer for each locality will provide the body bag and four PPE kits to the relatives. As per the SOP, they should wear the kit while packing the body in the bag and also while loading it onto the hearse van.
In order to receive a cremation pass, the family of the deceased should upload the medical certificate specifying the cause of death along with the insurance from covid-related duties, PMM Chief Engineer Srinivas Gangaram Kandul said. The process will also require the aadhar cards of the dead person and of those relatives handling the body, he added.
“The local ward officer and the ward medical officer must post the details of the death on the Pune Municipal Corporation’s WhatsApp group created for the purpose,” Kandul added.
“Not more than 10 people will be allowed at the crematorium,” he said, while adding that the officials will handle the body on reaching the crematorium and the relatives will receive the remains around an hour after cremation.
Pune on Wednesday recorded highest-ever single-day spike of 8,553 cases while 31 deaths were reported in the city.
