Covid-19 Pandemic Is Nowhere Near Over: WHO Chief

New Delhi: The World Health Organization (WHO) once again warned the world about the corona pandemic on Tuesday. WHO chief Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus warned on Tuesday, expressing concern over the latest surge in Covid cases . He said that the pandemic is “nowhere near over”

“I am concerned that cases of Covid-19 continue to rise — putting further pressure on stretched health systems and health workers. I am also concerned about the increasing trend of deaths,” WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told journalists here on Tuesday, reports Xinhua news agency.

India logged 16,906 new Covid cases in last 24 hours

The number of active Covid-19 cases in India went past 1.32 lakh as the country logged 16,906 new infections in the last 24 hours. With an increase of 1414, active coronavirus cases now comprise 0.30 per cent of the total infections. Meanwhile, the country on Tuesday witnessed a dip in the daily covid cases as the country reported 13,615 new infections.

In the last 24 hours, the death toll has reached 5,25,519, with 45 new deaths. A total of 15,447 patients recovered from the disease, taking the total recoveries to 4,30,11,874 across the country. Consequently, India’s recovery rate stands at 98.49%.
