Ahmedabad: Night curfew in Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara and Rajkot has been extended till April 15 in view of the spurt in coronavirus cases in Gujarat. Curfew was first issued in these cities till April 1.
The night curfew in the above mentioned four cities will be effective between 9 pm and 6 am. In an effort to curb the growing corona virus infections, the Gujarat government said that the implementation of the Centre’s guidelines on testing, detection and treatment and other measures has been extended to April 30.
The night curfew has been in operation since November 2020. On March 16, 2021, the state government increased the night curfew by two hours due to an increase in COVID-19 cases. The local administration extended that time by another hour.
On March 30, the latest order came after Gujarat reported 2,220 new COVID-19 cases, taking the state’s tally to 3,05,338. Ten more Corona patients died during this period, taking the death toll in the state to 4,510.
“There were five deaths in Ahmedabad, four in Surat and one in Vadodara. There were 644 new cases in Surat, followed by 613 in Ahmedabad, 257 in Vadodara, Rajkot in 207 other districts,” an official said.
According to the latest data available, a total of 2,88,565 COVID patients have been discharged so far. Currently, Gujarat has 12,263 active cases. A total of 53,89,349 people were vaccinated so far, while 6,43,855 beneficiaries received the second dose of Covid-19 vaccines.
Meanwhile, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation Deputy Health Officer Mehul Acharya confirmed that the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) has brought the number of COVID-19 cases to 70.
“They have set up a quarantine center and all COVID-19 patients are housed in separate facilities. Their doctors and our team are regularly monitoring the health of the people they meet,” Acharya said.
