To control the coronavirus pandemic, the US has now decided to give a booster dose of the Covid-19 vaccine to its entire adult population.

US vaccine company Pfizer on Tuesday asked U.S. regulators to allow booster doses of the vaccine for people 18 years of age or older.

The US has taken this step because the holiday season is about to start which will lead to a spike in domestic travel. In such a case, with the growing crowd of people, the risk of spreading the coronavirus pandemic may also increase.

In view of this, the US government has taken this decision. Earlier in September, the US government had allowed the elderly and especially those with weakened immunity to the Covid-19 virus were allowed to take booster doses of the coronavirus vaccine.

The World Health Organization (WHO) and many non-governmental organizations have strongly criticized the US government’s decision to impose a booster dose on the population.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has said that while vaccination rates are very low in many countries, rich countries have begun to apply booster doses of the Covid-19 vaccine. This has further reduced the likelihood of Coronavirus vaccines becoming available to poor countries.

Europe lags behind US in Covid-19 immunization

According to a report by the US TV channel NBC, Europe lags far behind the United States (US) in terms of Covid-19 immunization. About 67 percent of the US population have received at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine.

The highest rate in Europe is in Portugal, where 87 per cent of the population has had a Covid-19 dose. It is now likely that many countries in Europe will also intensify the campaign to impose booster doses of the coronavirus vaccine.
