Oct. 2, 2020, 12:14 p.m.

New Delhi: The number of coronavirus infections in the country is increasing exponentially with the COVID-19 virus claiming thousands of new victims every day.

The country is battling with a worrisome situation in terms of the increasing number of coronavirus cases. The situation is all the more alarming as medicines and vaccines for the COVID-19 virus are yet to be found.

Despite a lengthy lockdown which was intended to curb the COVID-19 virus, the coronavirus pandemic is getting more serious with each passing day.

The number of coronavirus infections is rising at an alarming rate in India with thousands falling victim to the COVID-19 virus every day.

The situation has become so dangerous that the number of coronavirus patients is rising by almost 1,00,000 every day and daily spikes of over 50,000 COVID-19 infections are coming to light for since July 30.

As Unlock 4 unfolds, the coronavirus pandemic is assuming even more alarming proportions with the number of COVID-19 infections rising by leaps and bounds.

With Unlock 5 coming up from October 15, the reopening of movie theaters, swimming pools and educational institutions are set to be allowed. It is feared in several quarters that this may help in the transmission of the COVID-19 virus and lead to a spike in the number of coronavirus cases.

In terms of the daily rise in the number of COVID-19 cases is concerned, India has now surpassed even the United States, which has been the worst affected by the coronavirus pandemic among the major countries.

After showing a decline for four consecutive days last week, the coronavirus pandemic has registered an increase in the number of new COVID-19 cases over the past few days.

Maharashtra continues to be the worst-hit with a total of 14,00,922 coronavirus cases, including 37,056 COVID-19 deaths; followed by Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.

According to the data from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), India conducted 10,97,947 coronavirus sample tests in a single day on Thursday, taking the total number of COVID-19 samples tested so far to 7,67,17,728.
